Shelter Island Homecare Agency

SI Home Care offers a variety of services that cater to the needs of your loved one. Our services are available for shift work up to 7 days a week, or as live-in 24 hour care. We specialize in (but are not limited to) care for individuals with physical, mental and psychological disorders, chronic illnesses such as Parkinson’s or dementia, terminal illnesses, and end-of-life support. Through our caregivers, we are able to provide the utmost care that our clients deserve.

Companionship Care

The purpose of companionship care is to offer company and friendship. Caregivers may help with certain household chores, but their primary purpose is to spend time with the patient. Grown children may want to hire companions to keep an eye on their aging parents, for example. Some of the services offered by companionship care include:

  • Bath, toilet & incontinence
  • Grooming & dressing guidance
  • Transportation
  • Diet & Nutrition
  • Grocery shopping
  • Meal preparation
  • Medication reminders
  • Light housekeeping & laundry
  • Recreational activities

The benefits of companionship care encompass cognitive stimulation, socialization, improvement in both physical and mental health, safety supervision, and more.

Hospice Care

Hospice care is end-of-life care provided by health care professionals and volunteers who offer medical, psychological, and spiritual support. Hospice programs also provide services to support a patient’s family. Ultimately, the goal of hospice care is to help those who are dying have peace, comfort and dignity.

Caregivers try to control pain and other symptoms so a person can remain as alert and comfortable as possible. Usually, a hospice patient is expected to live six months or less. Hospice care can take place at home, at a hospital center, in a hospital, or in a skilled nursing facility.
